The information below outlines the roles and responsibilities of various Troop and Patrol Leadership positions. Scouts accepting a leadership position is expected to know what is expected of them and to do the best job they can to fulfill the duties of the position.

Senior Patrol Leader

bulletJob Description: The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) is elected by the Scouts to represent them as the top junior leader in the Troop.
 
bulletReports To: The Scoutmaster
 
bulletRuns all Troop meetings, events, campouts, activities, and the annual program planning conference
bulletRuns the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) meetings
bulletAppoints other Troop junior leaders with the advice of and council of the Scoutmaster
bulletAssigns duties and responsibilities to junior leaders
bulletCoordinates activities of all Patrol Leaders
bulletAssists the Scoutmaster with junior leader training
bulletServes as Scoutmaster's point of contact to pass information to Troop members
bulletSets a good example
bulletEnthusiastically wears the appropriate Scout uniform correctly
bulletLives by the Scout Oath and Law

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

bulletJob Description: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) is the second-highest-ranking junior leader in the Troop. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) with the approval of the Scoutmaster. The ASPL acts as the SPL in his absence or when called upon. He also provides leadership to other junior leaders in the Troop.

bulletRuns the Troop in the absence of the SPL

Troop Scribe

bulletJob Description: The Troop Scribe is the Troop record keeper. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) with the approval of the Scoutmaster.
 
bulletReports To: The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL); The Scribe Advisor; The Scout's Mentor
 
bulletRecords attendance at Troop activities (meetings, campouts, etc.)
bulletRecords minutes of Troop meetings and makes them available to all Scouts
bulletServes as a member of the Patrol Leader Council (PLC)
bulletRecords minutes of PLC meetings
bulletIf unable to attend a meeting or event, finds a replacement to fill in

Troop Quartermaster

bulletJob Description: The Troop Quartermaster is the equipment keeper. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) with the approval of the Scoutmaster.
 
bulletReports To: The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL); The Quartermaster Advisor; The Scout's Mentor
 
bulletKeeps records of Troop/Patrol equipment
bulletConducts periodic inventory of equipment
bulletIssues equipment and ensures that equipment is returned in good, working order
bulletKeeps storage area (Troop Shed) organized
bulletServes as a member of the Patrol Leader Council (PLC)
bulletIf unable to attend an event, finds a replacement to fill in

Troop Librarian

bulletJob Description: The Troop Librarian is the document keeper. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) with the approval of the Scoutmaster.
 
bulletReports To: The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL); The Librarian Advisor; The Scout's Mentor
 
bulletBrings library to each Troop meeting
bulletMaintains an updated inventory of Merit Badge books
bulletMarks additions to the library to identify the item as belonging to the Troop
bulletMaintains a check-in/check-out list of items (is able to quickly identify who has what items checked out of the library)
bulletMakes suggestions for new and replacement Merit Badge books
bulletHelps the Troop Webmaster maintain a list of local Merit Badge Counselors
bulletIf unable to attend a Troop meeting, finds a replacement to fill in (replacement takes library to meeting and returns it afterwards)

Troop Historian

bulletJob Description: The Troop Historian keeps a record of activities (e.g., campouts and outings) the Troop goes on. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) with the approval of the Scoutmaster.
 
bulletReports To: The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL); The Historian Advisor; The Scout's Mentor
 
bulletCreates a small presentation of each Troop campout or outing; which can include pictures, brochures, write-ups or other materials
bulletIs an active member of each Troop campout or outing
bulletMaintains an archive of these presentations
bulletIf unable to attend an event, finds a replacement to fill in

Patrol Leader
