2004 Death Valley #2

On April 10, 2004, the Troop headed to Death Valley National Park, one of the hottest, driest, lowest spots on the planet for some camping. The photos below were taken on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.

Another marvel. I'm constantly amazed at what you can see, do and discover at our National Parks. (There are TBD of them; click the link at the bottom of the page to go to the next page.)

Can you believe it, a stream (Salt Creek) in the middle of the dessert? Can you guess what happens when you mix water and Scouts?

There is a short (about 1/2 mile) Salt Creek Trail. And when Boy Scouts see a trail, they're gonna hike it.

It's hot, so taking a break is a must. And yes, mom's go on many of our camping trips and outings. They often outshine some of us old-timers...

Now the trick is to find a Pup Fish (yes, that's their name). How these little guys manage to survive in a creek that often dries up is a marvel.

The next morning, very early in the morning I might add, it's already hot and only going to get hotter. We get up and get the day started.

Next stop, Death Valley Ranch (a.k.a., Scotty's Castle). It's not always up and down trails you know. Scouts even get a few educational opportunities...

So in we go for a guided tour.

Amazing how much money was put into this place. And out in the middle of nowhere.
