Monterey
Up

On 15-Aug-2003, Troop 267 headed to Veteran's Memorial Park in Monterey for a kayaking trip into Elkhorn Slough. The photos below were taken on Friday & Saturday. We planned dinner on Friday night, kayaking Saturday morning and some sort of beach-time for Saturday afternoon. It was a great weekend (the first time I had ever gone kayaking). We had plenty of good food (including 17 huge artichokes we bought locally), good exercise and lots of fun. Hope to see you there next time.

An important part of any campout is eating. And you need a really hot fire to cook correctly.

All Scouts are given assignments to help prepare meals. These two are making a salad for dinner.

Scouting is supposed to be a "boy lead experience". But every once in a while, "if you want it done right...". One of our Adult Leaders was worried that to many of these thin burgers would end up in the fire.

Our primary objective was kayaking. It started off very foggy but was beginning to clear up. Here we are taking a break. The tide was coming in and we were paddling against the tide.

Even though it was hard work at times, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Here's one "happy camper" with a big smile on his face.

It's times like this you wish you had a better digital camera... Here our guide took a group shot of the Troop 267 Kayakers.

They just can't get enough water. After kayaking all morning and getting something to eat, it's time for the beach (and Monterey has some nice ones). Whoever "put" this rock here must have been thinking about our Scouts!

Taking just a moment out from jumping in the waves, digging sand, catching crabs, etc. Troop 267's Scouts pose for a candid photo opportunity.
