Zion National Park #2

On April 11, 2003, the Troop left Truckee for a week of camping and hiking at Zion National Park. The photos below were taken during this week. (Don't worry, the Truckee schools had a summer break this week.)

There was so much to see and so much to do, it would be impossible to capture the entire trip. I have tried to select "the best of the best" to include in these photo pages. (There are 4 of them; click the link at the bottom of the page to go to the next page.)

On the way to Zion NP, we spent the night outside of Tonapah, NV (a rest area with camping facilities). Little did we know that the government was conducting Wind Tunnel experiments...

On Saturday we set up camp in the Watchman campground. Since we are in the canyon, the sun "sets" early. Here is a view of a "lesser hill" from our campsite.

Good place for a California Scout to look for Utah birds. This guy is on the lookout for a California Condor!

It's Sunday. You can see one of the Scout Leaders bringing up the rear (as the rest of the Scouts enjoy a break). Don't let the little kids fool you, we are a long way up - and climbing.

This is the view from our rest stop. We started on the canyon floor!

We've conquered Walter's Wiggles and now we are almost at Angels Landing.

And what a view. Almost 1,500' above the canyon floor (or 5,774' above sea level). We stop for lunch and enjoy the view.

After we climb down, we take a look back to see where we were. (The tall one just left of center...)
